Flood threat recognition is aided by information tailored for specific locations with rapid update. Stormwater and emergency management relies on information about where and how much rainfall and runoff will occur. Using near real-time radar rainfall and advanced hydrologic modeling, hydrologic response can be predicted, providing longer lead time for decision-makers to prepare for flood threats.
This interface shows a demonstration of flood prediction technology. The current time is indicated by the blue line, and the hydrograph is predicted to peak in the future. The time before this peak is called lead time. Given sufficient lead time, actions may be taken protect life and property.
